Stop 4: Zermatt, Switzerland

From Vevey, we took a train up to Zermatt. In total, the train ride took only about 2 hours even with a delayed train transfer. The train ride up to Zermatt was stunning! In order to get to this little mountain town, you have to ride on an extremely narrow train in order to wind up to the adorable mountain town. All the villages and mountain passes we went by were simply incredible! The town of Zermatt does not allow for traditional cars, so the only way to get around is by foot, bike or these electrical golf cart things. Waiting for us at the train station was a golf cart to take us to our hotel. We checked into our hotel which reminded me of a log cabin. From our room, we could see the Matterhorn if conditions were clear. So we freshened up and went out to find some grub. Emily admitted that she had never had fondue, so we knew what we were going to have for dinner that night. There's no surprise that she loved it - I mean how can you hate melted cheese dipped in bread and potatoes?

The next day we set out on a hike called "5 Lakes Hike". On the website it said it was easy, let me be the first to tell you - it was not easy! Or maybe we were just out of shape. Both are viable options. We also may not be able to count, because both of us only saw 4 lakes. If you have hiked this route, give me a shout - are we crazy or just can't count? Nevertheless, the pain of the hike was absolutely worth it. We were able to see the Matterhorn from a different viewpoint and some of its adorable mountain residents.

Hey little buddy!

What fun! There was a playground strategically placed on the hike route

After our hike, we returned back to the city to do some souvenir shopping and grab a light dinner. The next morning we had an early train to our last stop, Lugano. To get there we took the famous panoramic train down from the mountain town. None of the pictures I took either on my phone or my nicer camera could do any justice of how beautiful the region is.

I tried to my dismay, this was the best picture I took from the panoramic train
