I was given the chance to volunteer as an Event Assistant with Nordisk Panorama this September (I know, I've been a little slow writing all these blog posts... bare with me!)
Nordisk Panorama is the biggest showcase of Nordic Films held in Malmo, Sweden. Malmo is only about 45 minutes by train from Helsingborg. During my time as a volunteer, I was able to meet a lot of new people, better my Swedish, use my French, explore Malmo and most importantly view a lot of awesome Nordic films.
This year the festival was focused on Finland since this year they are celebrating 100 years of being an independent country (I know, I didn't know that either... glad I brushed up on my world history before moving to Sweden... NOT). The anchoring film of the festival was Hobbyhorse Revolution. Few people know this but the worldwide craze of hobby horsing actually was started in Finland, so it was natural to have the film as this year's festival anchor. I volunteered for the opening night of the festival where Hobbyhorse Revolution was shown. I can say that it was a really wonderful movie. It was just so sweet. I think it encapsulated the meaning of being a teenage girl in the 21st century. I even got to meet one of the stars of the documentary!

We had set up a hobbyhorse run for guests to try out after viewing the film. Yes that's another star of the film! |

Moved to Sweden and didn't know I'd meet a movie star |
I got a little lost in Malmo one day, but I stumbled upon its most famous resident: Turning Torso. The building twists 90 degrees clockwise. This an apartment building and I can't imagine how expensive it would be to live there!
The next event I volunteered at was a private event where producers and film makers could connect in order to create new projects together, called "Meet the Decision Makers".

I absolutely plan to volunteer again next year, if my schedule allows me to! I had so much fun working with the festival.
