How I Use Notebooks
There are big notebooks and small notebooks. Pretty notebooks and not so pretty notebooks (there is no such thing as ugly notebooks). There are so many ways to fill up notebooks. Here are just a few of the ways I that put the many notebooks I have to good use:
quick notes
We are all constantly thinking and observing the world we live in. There have been so many times that I've been on the bus, in the grocery store or elsewhere that a thought crosses my mind. I try to keep a small little notebook in my purse or backpack just in case the next American Classic enters my mind while buying milk.
new Swedish words
I am trying desperately to learn Swedish. Compared to French it has been extremely difficult since the two languages are completely different. I always have a small itty bitty notebook to write down a new word I hear or see while out and about. I usually don't have the time to translate the word or phrase at that moment, so I will go back later and find its English twin. This little notebook is like my own personal dictionary. It's fun to see how much my Swedish has progressed. At the beginning I was writing down simple words, while now I've moved up to some more fun and difficult words.
Bible notes
I read my Bible (almost) every morning over coffee. While I read, I like to have a notebook next to me so I can write down things that stick out to me or if I just like a verse. Whenever I attend church or conferences, I bring my notebook with me so I write down main points. I try to look over my notes every now and again, because no mind is perfect. I forget things. Sometimes just rereading the title of a sermon, I remember the main points.
studying
I feel like this is the most basic use of a notebook. I'm in grad school. What can I say? I study all the freakin' time.
planning trips
When I'm not studying, I have a separate notebook where I plan trips I'd like to take. Living in Sweden, all of Europe is open for me to explore. I like to see out of curiosity the prices of flights to far away lands and write them down (just in case if by some miracle, I gather enough money to fly away). I also use this notebook to write down hostels I like, recommendations from friends, etc. Honestly, my "Planning Notebook" is a hot mess, but it makes sense to me so who cares.
travel journal
Once I actually commit on a travel destination, I try to document all my adventures in a travel journal that was gifted to me before I studied abroad in 2015. It has lasted this long! Needless to say that I am not consistent journaler as I travel. I like to go back and look at what I wrote about life when I was studying abroad in Grenoble. I feel like it was just yesterday and it always brings a smile to my face to remember inside jokes or small things I forgot about.
