5 Autumn in Skåne Must-Haves

This is my second year living in Skåne, Sweden's southernmost region. While Skåne does not get the terrible winters that Sweden is known for, it does experience different weather than I was I used to Georgia and Mississippi. Fall in Georgia and Mississippi doesn't really start until mid-October and then kinda plunges into a strange semi-winter where you can never pack up your summer clothes. In Sweden, pretty much after mid-September, all of my summer clothes have been tucked away in my closet.

So if you are planning to live or travel through Skåne in the fall, here are the top 5 things you got to remember:

1. Rain Gear. Y'all. It rains here. Like - really rains. At times it seems like the rain is flying up from the ground. I'm not exactly sure at the happens but spend a fall here and you'll see what I'm talking about. The minute it begins to get chilly here is when you know to not only bring out the sweaters but also your rain gear. The brand Tretorn, who is known for their raincoats and boots, was originally started in Helsingborg and for obvious reasons - it rains here like nowhere else I've lived before. Invest in a nice raincoat and boots. I know some people who even have rain pants for when they need to bike in the rain. It's raining hard enough to need rain pants, you can better believe I'm taking the bus. However, don't think that an umbrella will do any real good. It is so windy here that umbrellas just fold.

2. Sunglasses. Even though you will have these massive rainstorms, there will be times that the sun shines so fiercely that it's hard to imagine that it was raining just 10 minutes prior. So between the rainstorms and before the sun goes to sleep for the winter, throw a pair of sunglasses in your bag. You never know when they'll come in handy (especially if you are biking).

3. Fuzzy Blanket. One thing about fall that I really love is that it obviously starts to get cold. Snuggling up with cocoa and a good book becomes a socially appropriate thing to do. (I mean it is year-round but try getting snuggly with a blanket and cocoa in 80-degree temps... a little harder) I just pulled my thicker blanket down from my closet to lay on my bed and the amount of joy it brought me was a little embarrassing.

4. Tasty Apple Recipes. Sweden produces so many apples this time of year. They are usually smaller than those back home but just as tasty. So use the massive amounts of rain in your favor, invite some friends over to bake an apple treat to enjoy together.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Apple Cinnamon Bread
Apple & Gouda Grilled Cheese
Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal

5. A Good Attitude. I hate to break it to you, but it is just going to get colder and the days will become shorter from this point on. One of the best things to have during a Swedish fall is a good attitude. Start thinking about all the great winter things to look forward to, not the bad. Christmas markets! Cozy movie nights! Warm soup and grilled cheese! Skiing (or just rolling around in the snow)! Also, one thing to note is that most people take some variation of Vitamin D. No matter if you are a Swedish newbie or a reindeer herder from Lapland, the lack of Vitamin D affects everyone! Play it safe and just go ahead and start taking Vitamin D. If you want to start with a small dosage and work your way up, that's totally fine. You know your body better than anyone else. You can get Vitamin D in the form of gummies, traditional pills or mixes to add to water.

Has anyone ever been to Skåne or Sweden in the fall?
