Fourth Sunday in Advent

Advent is a big thing in Sweden leading up to Christmas. Last year, I was so confused by the whole thing. In my previous experiences, only Catholics observe advent. However this year I quickly embraced the Advent culture and enjoyed all of the celebrations that lead up to Christmas. All of these small gatherings that take place in one another's home or attending a choir concert make the event of  Christmas much more special.

Advent is a time of awaiting a special birth and a change of the world. This time should be exciting and full of joy. Yet so many people treat Christmas as a burden.  I understand that there are many expectations to attend all of the Christmas parties, donate to every single charity possible and be the cheeriest person on the planet. Don't let these worldly definitions of Christmas bog you down! It will ruin the joy and excitement of Christmas. I know this is so much easier said than done - many people feel pressure to mold to what society wants them to be and especially at Christmas. Speak to others in your community with truth and love about how you are feeling at Christmas. If they care for you truly then they will not push you into something that is outside of your comfort zone - mentally, physically AND financially.

Loving one another is FREE. Remember that dear friends.

Oh, Emmanuel
I am filled with joy because of your coming.
Guide my feet on the way of peace.

Merry Christmas everyone!
God Bless!
